A permit is required in most jurisdictions for adding on to pre-existing structures, and in some cases for major renovations. Failure to obtain a permit can result in significant fines and penalties, and even demolition of unauthorized construction if it can not be built to meet code.
A Property owner who presently occupies or intends to occupy a Single Family residence may obtain a building permit to construct or repair a residence.
Contractors who are properly licensed may also obtain a building permit, within the limits established for their licenses.
